Fact Sheets: Drug and Alcohol Information

In our effort to help the individual recover from alcoholism and drug addiction, we use many tools at our disposal. One of the most effective tools we have is to honestly educate people about drugs, what their specific actions in the body are and what their long-term and short-term effects and dangers are.

Here we hope to pass that same information on to the Internet user to better help you understand what drugs are and what they do.

By providing current and complete information on alcohol and drugs of abuse, we hope to help those caught in the grasp of addiction and alcoholism and their families and loved ones understand what specific effects drugs and alcohol have on the body, mind and spirit.

Opiates and Prescription Drugs. More and more we are seeing individuals come into treatment for opiates and prescription drugs. Among the most powerfully addictive substances are heroin, oxycontin (oxycodone) and benzodiazepines. However, addiction to any drug can be dangerous and will affect the quality of your life negatively. To read more about these types of drugs, click on the links below:

Alcoholism Information. The consequences of alcohol misuse are serious-in many cases, life threatening. Drinking increases the risk of death from automobile crashes as well as recreational and on-the-job injuries. Both homicides and suicides are more likely to be committed by persons who have been drinking. In purely economic terms, alcohol-related problems cost society approximately $185 billion per year. In human terms, the costs cannot be calculated.

Other Drugs of Abuse. While Alcoholism and Opiate addiction are most prevelant these days, many drugs like cocaine and crack, ecstasy and LSD continue to be problematic for individuals, their families and society. To read more about these substances and others, click on one of the links below:
